I am living this nightmare for the third time. Don't put your heirs through the misery. Get your estate/will in order and walk your executor through what they will need to do. If you have adult kids, Swedish Death Cleaning (getting rid of as much stuff as you can so they don't have to) can be a blessing as well and it's nice (but sometimes emotional) to just get rid of a lot of old, needless stuff.

Spot on, Paul. Tackling the uncomfortable task of thinking about dying in terms of the estate and getting a will written and witnessed takes the burden off heirs. And it's far better to do it when one is alive and well (especially mentally) than it is when one is on the doorstep of crossing over! Thanks for the sound advice!
