Death Is No Big Deal. Just Ask Your Cells!

Did you know that you die thousands of times a day?
I didn’t, until I began to learn about what actually goes on within our bodies.
Every second, a million cells in your body die. And every second, they are replaced by a million new cells. That is truly a miracle of life. But more than that, it means in its essence that a substantial part of each of us dies each second. And then is effectively reborn.
Consider this, too: as the old cells die, they pass on their cellular memory to the new cells that are born. So, old liver cells transmit what they “know” to new liver cells and this scenario is repeated for every organ in the body, over and over, every second. And it’s completely exclusive. Which means you’ll never have old lung cells die to be accidentally replaced by new liver cells!
It kind of makes you wonder why any of us fear dying at all since our bodies do it moment by moment every day of every year we are alive. And throughout this birth/death cellular cycle, we remain who we are. We don’t notice any difference from one moment to the next in who we are as Bob or Tom, or Mary or what have you.
Believe It. Then See It
Of course, while that takes place at the cellular level, it’s at the mental level where we face our greatest challenges when it comes to growing older and dying. The good news, again, is that we have the total means to determine how we meet and slay those fears.
It’s like this: how you see yourself is how you be yourself. In other words, you are what you think you are. If you think you are in decline and that’s your predominant belief about your body, then, decline you must because that is what you believe about yourself.
Let’s turn around that old phrase, “seeing is believing”, to correctly state, “believing is seeing”. Embrace that and it becomes a simple recipe for effective and satisfying living. But, I hear you say, that’s more easily said than done. For sure. Because it’s our beliefs – really, our thoughts repeated over and over without question or self-examination – that we need to alter, amend or jettison in order to change the course of our lives.
There is another element that can be troubling for so many of us who are old and getting older and that is faith. Do we have the faith that our lives will actually change by changing how we regard ourselves?
The Hard Part Is The Faith Part
This is a huge question, this “faith in life”. It has troubled me most of my life. I am the perfect example of the “Doubting Thomas”, that disciple of Jesus’ who constantly questioned what his Master said. How can I or any of us be sure that Life is benevolent; that the Universe is kind and loving?
I used to have this view of life when I was a kid: the moment you feel happy, life is going to mess it up. It became a belief based on something negative that occurred once or twice but I kept thinking about how Life upset me and I formed the view that I should never trust being happy. I was a victim of the “seeing is believing” falsehood.
The good news is that I no longer believe that but it took some prolonged and intense examination of my beliefs before I could find the illusion behind them.
Now I am finally building faith in Life.
Is faith the precursor to belief, I wonder? We don’t question our beliefs because we take them to be the “truth”. I believe I will wake up each morning because I have faith that I will. That’s a belief that I want to hold onto! So, why not adopt other empowering beliefs like “My life is filled with abundance every day”? I’m not suggesting a Pollyanna approach because that won’t work if you don’t fully believe the statement that your life is filled with abundance. But there’s nothing to stop you looking for evidence of abundance in your life.
Getting The Vibe Right
When you begin this practice – and it must be consistently practised to work– you begin to build the muscle of positivity and, presto, you have created a new empowering belief about yourself and your life.
So, what exactly occurs when you focus your thought energy on something positive? You actually raise the level of your vibration.
Okay, time to take a step back for a minute. Everything, every event we experience, and everyone of us is vibrating at a specific, unique frequency. And what we experience is the result of a match between our frequency and the frequency of whatever we have manifested.
This is the New Age message that has come into sharp focus ever since The Secret was first published and the documentary of the same name released. It’s also the message found repeatedly in the New Testament and other foundational works from many other non-Christian religions around the world.
See, the words may be different but the song remains the same.
Now, how does this tie into the art to aging? A better question might be how doesn’t it?
The beauty of the fact that our thoughts create our reality means that even in our 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, the law of manifestation holds true. This is good news! It’s never too late to change the course of our inner lives in order to change the course of our outer lives.
