I read a staggering number, the other day.
The global wellness industry is worth 5.6 trillion dollars a year. That surpasses even what the pharmaceutical industry earns. By about 4 trillion dollars.
So, what is the global wellness industry, exactly? Well, we could loosely define it as techniques, services, and products that help individuals maintain health and overall well-being.
Sounds pretty good so far. But when you dig a little deeper, those techniques, services and products are priced for one market only: the wealthy one percent.
That’s where the big money is and that, I suspect, is why Tony Robbins has teamed up with hotelier Sam Nazarian and other well-heeled investors to launch something called the Estate.
The Estate is described in a press release as a “ Revolutionary Luxury Hospitality & Residential Ecosystem Anchored in the World of Preventative Medicine, AI and Longevity” where a hotel room will cost a thousand bucks a night and annual memberships will run to $35,000 a year.
Gotta keep all the multi-millionaires and billionaires healthy.
Tony Robbins has made a large personal fortune worth a reported 600 million dollars from the self-help industry, first with his books (like “Awaken the Giant Within”) and audio tapes (remember those late night informercials in the early 80s?), followed by his multi-day retreats in exotic locales (ah, the Fire Walk…), partnerships with other business owners – more like a licencing of his name - and a lot more.
But his first foray into the wellness business is through a company called Fountain Life. I encourage you to click on the link for Fountain Life. It’s an eye opener: a full-service health and diagnostics center with in-house physicians and the best cutting edge testing procedures that money can buy.
Oh yes, the money. Fountain Life offers an annual membership, much as other high-end spa facilities do. So, no problem if you have a spare $19,500 to spend. Each year. Fountain Life says they have a waiting list 25 thousand names long to join.
Now combine that with what the Estate is offering, along with all the other luxury spas and hotels around the world and you can see why the global wellness industry is worth 5.6 trillion a year, projected, by the way, to grow to 8 trillion in just 2 years.
So, take a step back and consider this picture from the 30-thousand foot level. Is this cutting edge health science being used for the greater good of the world? Perhaps we also need to ask if the health science being offered has been proven.
So, what can the rest of us reach for? Well, if you can give up the $500 massages and champagne baths, there is a lot and it’s based on science that has been proven.
Take one of the most accessible modalities: frequency specific microcurrent technology (FSM). Go and listen to our 2-part interview with Dr. Carolyn McMakin.
You’ll discover a fascinating and exciting technology that is affordable to all of us.
Or see our interview with Dr. Steve Small (Doc Steve), a doctor of natural medicine in Los Angeles who discusses everything from supplements to diet to the Healy, a tiny device that emits microcurrents similar to FSM and can be worn easily on the body.
Then there are the growing areas of sound therapy and light therapy. All of these just mentioned are based on one principle: everything is vibration and frequency.
So, does it matter that Tony Robbins is going to make many more millions for himself and his partners by offering health services and techniques with huge price tags for the uber-wealthy?
I guess not. At the end of the day, health is health. And a vacation is a vacation. If you can arrive at health by arriving at a spa in the Caribbean for a week, so what?
At least the weather should be good.
